Toddlers are at an in between stage, they want to do everything on their own, but they can’t actually do anything on their own! This can be challenging, especially if you have an active toddler like mine.
Artie is so curious and full of energy! He loves to explore new things and see new places! It can be exhausting keeping him entertained when we are at home all day. It’s not hard to notice he is happiest on the days we get out of the house!
Getting out of the house helps me too. As a stay at home mom, the days we stay home feel like the longest days. I try to plan at least one outing for us each day without breaking the bank! These fun outings for active toddlers will keep your toddler entertained and will hopefully lead to a great nap!
Attend a children’s story time at your local library! Many libraries hold these events weekly and provide stories, music, and fun activities! Artie loves listening to the stories, dancing to the music, and his favorite part is the bubble machine! It’s also a great time for him to interact with other kids and for me to meet other moms! You can find your local story times and more kid friendly activities at MacaroniKid.com!
Going to the park is a great way for Artie to exercise out all of that extra energy and also develop his motor skills! It has been so fun to watch him develop and explore on the playground! Always bring along sunscreen if you are outside on a sunny day!
Before I became a mom, the last thing I thought of when I pictured a museum was a toddler friendly zone. It wasn’t until a friend invited us to visit the local museum with her that it became one of my favorite places to take Artie! We even got an annual membership! Artie loves to wander around the museum looking at the exhibits and ours even has a play room! Check out your local museum and see what they have available for your active toddler!
Gymboree Play & Music
Gymboree Play & Music has classes and activities that help boost your child’s development. We have been a few times but the one that sticks out most to me is when Artie was struggling to learn how to crawl. We have hard wood floors so there wasn’t a great place for him to practice in our home. He would just scoot around on his tummy but very rarely crawled in the typical position. I took him to Gymboree and climbing around on the different mats made all of the difference in the world! I have been trying to catch him ever since!!! Click here to find a location near you!
Ok I get it… taking your active toddler to a restaurant sounds like a nightmare. I’m not suggesting you take them to your favorite fancy restaurant and strap them into a highchair for an hour. Something more kid friendly with a playground or a fenced in outdoor area can be a great way to get out of the house and enjoy a bite to eat! Visit a ChickFilA or McDonalds in your area with a playground for your toddler to toddle on! You can find tips for dining out with your toddler here!
Artie and I have tons of fun window shopping in our local mall. During the week it isn’t as busy and he can stretch out his legs while he wanders around the different stores. There are so many things for a toddler to see in a mall!
Take advantage of the summer sun and visit a pool in your area! We had so much fun swimming and playing at the local splash pad this summer! Artie takes the BEST naps after an hour or two at the pool! Check out these tips for visiting the pool with your toddler!
Visit Friends or Family
Artie gets so excited when he hears we are going to visit Grandma and Grandpa! It’s a whole new home for him to run around and different faces for him to see! This is a great way to get out of the house and spend time with family and friends! I am sure they will love the chance to see your energetic toddler take over their home!
Go For A Walk
Sometimes getting your toddler out of the house can be as simple as taking a walk around your neighborhood. When you have an active toddler a simple change of scenery can do the trick!
If you have an active toddler JUST GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! Taking your toddler out and about while trying to tackle your to do list can seem overwhelming, but it can actually be a lot of fun for both of you! One of the best things about toddlers is their amazement toward EVERYTHING! The simplest things can entertain them from grocery shopping to stopping by the drycleaner. Taking them along to run your errands will be a great opportunity for them to learn about the world around them!
Artie and I have the MOST fun when we get out of the house. It’s so fun being out and about, like we are on our own adventure together! It’s exciting because you never know what will happen when you are out with your toddler! I hope these fun outings for active toddlers bring you and your little one some happiness too!
