Artie was 15 months old when my husband and I got married. Whether you plan it this way or not, there are obvious pros and cons to doing things out of the traditional order. You will find balance by following these tips for planning your wedding when you have a baby!
There were a few challenges when I was planning our wedding, but in the end I wouldn’t have had it any other way! Our wedding day was one of the most special days of our lives and I am so happy our baby boy was there to share it with us.
Find Trustworthy Childcare
One of the biggest roadblocks I ran into when I was planning my wedding was that everyone I trusted to watch my son was invited to the wedding! Our wedding ran well past his bedtime but I didn’t want to inconvenience our family or friends by asking them to leave early with him.
Another concern was making sure he had a safe ride since we were serving our guests from an open bar. Luckily a coworker offered to help out! She picked up Artie when it was getting late, took him home and put him to bed.
This is definitely something you want to plan ahead of time and you may even want to consider having a sitter during the ceremony and reception as well.
My wedding was at 6:00pm so Artie’s bedtime came upon us pretty quickly. Our venue did not have the option but if you can, consider your baby’s schedule when planning the time of your ceremony. This will give you a better chance of having a happy baby on your special day!
Include Your Baby
Take advantage of having your baby be a part of your special day! Include them as much as you can in your ceremony and reception, it will make it that much more special for you and your family! Artie was our ring bearer and we also included him in our unity ceremony and had a special dance with him during the reception.
Artie was our ring bearer and I was so excited to have him be a part of our ceremony. When he came out with his “Ring Security” briefcase he had all of our guests smiling from ear to ear! When we were planning his part in the wedding I wondered how we would keep him content for half an hour during the ceremony.
I didn’t want our friends or family members to miss it because they had to take him out. Then I had the great idea to fill his briefcase with snacks and toys! Some of our guests thought there were rings inside but this is what we really filled it with!
There were definitely a few bloopers (Artie’s shoe fell off onto the train of my dress during our ceremony!) but having Artie there with us on our wedding day was absolutely amazing!
Our wedding day wasn’t just a union of two people, but three! If you are worried about how your baby with you will affect your wedding day, I can honestly say having Artie there made it even better than I could have imagined. I am so glad he was there on one of the most important days of our lives. I hope this helps as you are planning your wedding!
