Tips For Working While Pregnant
Being pregnant was one of the most exciting, nerve wracking, and exhausting times of my life, all wrapped into one! I really enjoyed being pregnant but I won’t pretend there weren’t some long days in the office, especially those last few months! There were times when I didn’t know if I would make it through working the full 9 months, but I did it! I can’t wait to share my tips for working while pregnant, to help you through it too!

Snacks!
Start your day with a good breakfast and stock up on snacks to eat throughout the day. Eating small, healthy snacks will keep your energy up and also give you a little something to enjoy!
I kept a storage bin like this under my desk, filled with my favorite snacks! During the first trimester you may want to keep a stash of Preggie Pops in case you are feeling nauseous. You can find some healthy snack ideas here!
Water
Stay hydrated! You will feel much worse if you don’t drink enough water, not to mention it can be dangerous for you and your baby.
I found that keeping a water bottle, like this, at my desk helped me drink more throughout the day. This also helped me keep track of how much water I was drinking.
Rest
You won’t be able to go, go, go, like you could before you were pregnant. You will need to take breaks when you are at work and get as much sleep as you can when you aren’t.
Take it easy on the weekends and nap as much as possible. Trust me, you won’t regret it! Enjoy those naps while you can!
Manage Your Stress
Depending on your job, we all experience different levels of stress at work. As a business manager, I was responsible for 40+ employees on a daily basis.
Before I became pregnant I let stress get the best of me at times. Sometimes I was boiling over with anxiety during difficult situations but I knew I couldn’t let this happen during my pregnancy.
Stress is one of the worst things for your baby, so it’s important to find healthy ways to manage the pressures that come with your job.
Just being pregnant actually helped me gain perspective on the stress I experienced at work. I saw the big picture and realized that my baby’s health was more important than a difficult conversation.
When you are feeling stressed at work during your pregnancy, take a moment to yourself. Take deep breaths, take a walk, do what you need to do to decompress.
Keep Coworkers Informed
Your health is the most important thing during your pregnancy. Keep your boss and any coworkers you are comfortable with, informed during your pregnancy. You may have less energy and need to take more breaks during certain points in your pregnancy.
Although you may want to wait until after the first trimester to break the news, your coworkers are going to notice eventually! You spend so much of your time at work so let your coworkers support you during your pregnancy!
Move!
If your job requires you to sit at a desk all day make sure you take time to get up and walk around. You will be amazed at what a few stretches or a walk around your office can do! Your energy level will be noticeably higher once you get your blood flowing.
Cut Back
If at all possible, you may want to cut back on days or hours during the last few months of your pregnancy. I was so thankful that I had all of my vacation days saved so I could work 4 days a week during the last two months of my pregnancy.
This isn’t something that HAD to be done, but it did make things much easier on me, especially since we were in the process of moving.
Dress Comfortably
One of my biggest challenges during my pregnancy was finding outfits that made me feel pretty AND comfortable. The last thing you want during a long day at work is to be pulling at your clothes. I love these options for working moms-to-be!
Treat Yourself!
You are working hard AND growing a life inside of you! You deserve to reward yourself! Treat yourself to something you enjoy whether it be a nice lunch, a milkshake, a fun activity, or a weekend getaway! Give yourself something to look forward to during your long day at work!
Take It One Day At A Time
Working while pregnant can be exhausting but it will be over in the blink of an eye! Take it one day at a time and before you know it you will have your bundle of joy in your arms! Congratulations Mama! You can do this!

Hi,
These are really helpful especially for first time moms! I found it hard to walk around my last pregnancy , so I did a lot of stability ball sitting to change things up!
I look forward to reading some of your other tips in other blog posts!
Thanks!
The stability ball is a huge help. Especially those last few months! Thank you for reading my post!
Rest is so important! I use to take naps after work, before I cooked dinner and my partner got home. Just so I was able to stay up a few hours with him after the boys went to bed and not have to compromise sleep. All of these tips are GREAT! I love it.
Thank you so much!
Its honestly so hard working while pregnant but I think these tips you shared are so useful. I think also being aware of your body and realizing its going through some changes and just to be easier on it is so important.

What a great point you make here! There are definitely more things you need to pay attention to and prepare for when away from home while pregnant.
Thanks!
Your first three are seriously golden. Honestly, one of the hardest parts when I was pregnant was learning to be okay asking for help with physical needs. Going from doing everything to not being able to do many things was so hard for me. It’s a learning curve to figure out how to be patient with ourselves.
Yes! Asking for help is always hard for me but I didn’t really have a choice when I was 8 months pregnant! Thanks for reading!
