Work At Home Mom Routine

When I started working from home I was completely overwhelmed. I had already started my blog when I took on another opportunity as a travel agent. I knew I wanted my career to flourish but I also didn’t want by blog to suffer as a result. After spending months growing my blog, writing over 40 articles and spending hours promoting it each week, how could I let it fall by the wayside? With a baby under a year old, could I do it all? It was time to find the perfect work at home mom routine for me!

I quickly made adjustments to our routine and found a way to make it happen! Each week I fit in over 40 hours of work, without sacrificing my time with Artie! I still give him the attention he needs while juggling two jobs and maintaining a household! My secret is sticking to a routine. This is what works for us!

Our Routine With Details

6:30am Wake Up

Time to roll out of bed!

6:30-8:00 Get Ready For The Day/Work

I use this time to shower, check emails, tidy up the house… this is when I set myself up for success! Dad has left for the day and Artie is still sleeping so I take advantage of my quiet time.

8:00am Artie Wakes Up

This is when the fun begins!

8:00-9:00 Get Artie Ready For The Day

Once Artie wakes up, I get him changed into fresh clothes for the day and he plays independently while I make our breakfast.

9:00-11:00 Play Time

After we eat breakfast it’s time to play! During this time I unplug, no laptop and no TV. I try not to be on my phone, but sometimes it just isn’t possible as a work at home mom. I do my best to give Artie my full attention during these two hours.

11:00-1:00 Naptime/Work

Naptime! Time to be productive! I use Artie’s naptime to get as much done as possible. These two hours are my most productive of the day. I spend most of this time on my laptop, writing blog posts or planning vacations. I am completely focused on my work during these two hours.

1:00-2:30 Lunch and Independent Play/Work

Once Artie wakes up from his nap I make our lunch and tie up any loose ends from work while Artie plays independently. Then we eat!

2:30-4:00 Outing

After lunch we get out of the house. We errands or just go have some fun at the park!

4:00-5:30 Naptime/Work

Time for Artie’s second nap! I think he will be dropping this one soon but in the meantime I am going to take full advantage! During this nap I work and do chores around the house if I have time.

5:30-6:30 Playtime/Laundry

After Artie’s nap he has a snack and we play! Artie’s nursery is right next to our laundry room so this is when I do laundry. I know I will have three hours to get it done without waking him.

6:30pm Dad Gets Home!

Now the fun really begins!

6:30-8:00 Dinner/Playtime

Dad takes over playtime with Artie while I make dinner and we all eat together. I can also use this time to wrap up anything I have leftover from work. After dinner we play with Artie and spend time as a family.

8:00pm Get Artie Ready For Bed

Time to get Artie ready for bed! You can read about Artie’s bedtime routine here!  Dad usually handles bathtime so while he’s doing that I tidy up the kitchen.

8:30-10pm Relax!

Time for Mom and Dad to relax! This is when we wind down and spend time together. We are usually exhausted by the end of the day so it is nice to have this time to relax.

10:00pm Bedtime

Zzzzzz!

This is the routine that works for US. Will it work for everyone? Absolutely not. Every baby and every family is different. You have to find the routine that works for you and your family. I hope my work at home mom routine can give you a place to start!

Do things always go EXACTLY by this schedule? NO WAY! Sometimes Artie wakes up a little early or I have a little more work than usual. The good thing about both of my jobs is their flexibility. I can do a little work here and there when Artie is awake without affecting my time with him.

You may look at my schedule and think… this isn’t 40 hours of work. One of the (few) disadvantages of being a work at home mom is that I work weekends. On the weekends I have an extra pair of hands, so I get even more work done!
