New Mom Tips You Haven’t Heard Before!

The beginning of motherhood is one of the most exciting times of our lives! It is a time of joy and happiness, but can also be overwhelming and exhausting. I was clueless and searched endlessly for new mom tips that could help me.

As new moms we will be faced with new challenges that we have never experienced before. Becoming a mom can be a HUGE adjustment, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience with babies (like me!).

As a new mom, anything that makes life with your newborn easier is a win! Here are a few new mom tips and tricks I picked up along the way that helped me care for my little one. These are all things I learned on my own or from other moms. I hope this list will make the first few months with your baby easier too!

1. Baby Monitor Band-Aid

The last thing you want, when you finally get your baby to sleep, is to see a blank screen on your baby monitor. I could not figure out why my monitor video kept going dark. I tried opening the curtains to let light in, turning on a nightlight, everything… it was so frustrating!

After a while I finally realized that the nursery wasn’t too dark, but actually too bright. Then I put a band-aid on the light sensor and now I can always see my baby! You can also use tape to cover the sensor, as long as it isn’t transparent.

2. Tummy Time

Tummy time is so important for your newborn’s development but there can be other benefits as well. If your baby loves tummy time, try putting them down on a blanket next time they are crying.

This trick cheered Artie up during many “witching hours”. It can also help push out gas that is stuck in your baby’s tummy.

3. Convenient Grocery Shopping

If you have a grocery store near you that offers grocery pickup I definitely recommend taking advantage of this service!

Having my groceries loaded into my car is so much easier than taking my baby into the store. I also save money because I never make impulse purchases.

Another convenient option that I LOVE is to have meals delivered. I have tried all of the most popular services and Hello Fresh is BY FAR my favorite.

Not only do they have the most DELICIOUS meals but they could not be more convenient or easier to prepare. You will have a fresh, tasty meal on the table in 30 minutes or less, without ever leaving your home. You can even skip weeks as needed! Click here to receive $100 off Hello Fresh!

4. Gripe Water

Gripe Water is a miracle worker for gassy babies! If you have a newborn that cries and you aren’t sure why, ask your pediatrician if Gripe Water could help.

It is a natural remedy that helps babies with colic, gas, and hiccups. Gripe Water works quickly and almost instantly relieved Artie’s gas pains. Always check with your pediatrician before giving your baby anything besides breast milk or formula!

5. Sing To Your Baby

Sometimes the only thing that will soothe Artie is my voice (unfortunately for anyone else in the room!). This tip has been especially useful in the car when I can’t reach him or when I am struggling to get him to sleep. Artie’s favorite song to hear is the Alphabet!

6. Use Your Keurig To Keep Bottles Warm

One of my favorite new mom tips! If your baby doesn’t finish his bottle right away, run your Keurig without the K-cup and put the bottle in the warm water. This will keep your baby’s bottle warm for a while, until your baby is ready for more.

You can also use your Keurig as an alternative to warm your baby’s bottles. Simply place the bottle in the warm water until it reaches the desired temperature.  Always check the temperature of your baby’s bottle before giving it to them.

7. Do Chores With Your Baby

A few weeks into motherhood, I realized I needed to get things done around my home, while still caring for my newborn baby. I felt guilty if I wasn’t paying attention to him to do things that seemed less important, like laundry or dishes. At the same time, we couldn’t live in a home that looked like a tornado had come through!

Then I found a solution! Take your baby with you around the house with you to get things done! You can move your baby’s bouncer or wear your baby around the house in a hands free carrier.

They can watch what you are doing and learn while you work! Talk to your baby about what you are doing. You will be surprised by how easily your baby is entertained.

8.  Keep Toys On The Changing Table

If your baby is fussy or squirmy during diaper changing, keep toys within arms reach to distract him. These toys are perfect for the changing table and also help develop your baby’s fine motor skills!

9. Create The Perfect Sleep Environment

Nothing (except for your baby, of course) is more precious during this time than sleep! I use blackout curtains and this sound machine in Artie’s nursery to promote sleep. Don’t worry about Baby being scared of the dark, they don’t know about monsters under the bed yet!

The sound machine can also help your baby sleep away from home by creating the familiar sounds of his nursery.

Your baby’s crib should always be free of any blankets, stuffed animals, or bumpers. A wearable blanket is a safe option for keeping your baby warm!

10. Do What Works For YOUR Baby

Every baby is different and over time you will notice YOUR baby’s preferences. What works for one baby may not work for another and you know your baby better than anyone!

Trust your instincts and enjoy this time with your baby!  You are only a new mom once!
